1. Admission to St. Mary’s Academy of Guagua is granted with a clear understanding that the child and his/her parents or guardian agree to comply with the school’s academic standards, its rules and regulations and all the policies in the Handbook. The school reserves the right to treat violators in accordance with the Christian system of discipline and guidance. The right to dismiss any student for poor academic standing or undesirable conduct unbecoming of a Catholic student is also reserved to the school authorities
Admission Guidelines
Kindergarten:
a. at least 5 years old on or before August 31 and passed the assessment exam with proof of completion of Early Childhood Education (Day Care).
b. has a good grasp on the pencil while writing
c. can identify letters, numbers, shapes and colors
d. can write his/her name
e. can follow directions during the test
f. can respond to the questions during interview
g. in case the pupil is only 4 years old but finished Kindergarten with certificate and passed the test, he/she will be admitted provided that the parent signs an agreement stipulating that if there should be no improvements, the child will be transferred to Nursery.
Grade One:
a. at least 6 years old on or before August 31
b. must have finished Kindergarten with certificate
c. knows the alphabets, numbers, shapes and colors
d. can write his/her name legibly
e. can follow directions during the test
f. can identify initial sounds and read simple words (c-v-c)
g. should pass the entrance test
h. can respond to the questions during the interview
i. in case the child is only 5 years old but finished Kindergarten with a certificate and Form 138 and passed the test, inform the Registrar for admission.
Grade 7 and 8:
a. must have good grades on the Report Card (no failing Grades)
b. must pass the Entrance Test (IQ Test and 1 of the Teacher Made Tests) and Interview
c. can read comprehensively and answer questions correctly
d. in case a student fails the tests, he/she will be admitted provided that a parent signs an agreement stipulating that if there are failing grades, the student will be advised to transfer on the following year.
Grade 9 and 10:
a. must pass the Entrance Test (OLSAT) and Interview
b. can read comprehensively and answer questions correctly
2. Requirement for New Students and Transferees
a. SMAG entrance test and interview
b. Form 138 or Report Card with a passing mark in all subjects
c. Deportment grade of at least 80% or its equivalent
d. Original Copy and Photocopy of PSA Birth Certificate
e. Original Copy and Photocopy of Baptismal Certificate
f. Incoming Grade 6 or Grade 10 student from another province is subject for deliberation.
3. Requirement for Non-Catholics Compulsory attendance in the following activities:
a. Christian Living Class or Values Education Class
b. Holy Masses
c. Recollection/Retreat
d. Vigil
e. Other religious activities of the school
f. For Muslim students, there will be an agreement between the Guidance Office and parents.
He / She will not be obliged to go to confession or receive Holy Communion.
In case of non-compliance with such requirements, the Principal has the discretion to dismiss the student(s).
4. Requirements for Aliens and Students with Alien Names
a. A copy of Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR)
b. PSA Birth Certificate of the student who is a Filipino citizen but whose family name is of foreign origin
c. Photocopy of the student’s visa or passport
d. Copy of records from previous school
e. Entrance test and interview
5. Requirements for Re-Admission of Students to SMAG
a. A regular student of SMAG with one or two failing grades will be readmitted to the next year if he/she passes the subject(s) during summer classes and has no disciplinary case.
b. A student who fails in 3 subjects will be retained in the same year level. If he/she is retained in two (2) consecutive years, he/she will be refused re-admission.
c. A student who gets a Conduct grade of 75 or below in 2 or 3 quarters will be refused re-admission the following year. The Principal, however, has the discretion to dismiss the student within the school year after consultation with the Discipline Committee.
d. A student may be refused re-admission upon recommendation of the class adviser and subject teachers based on deportment and academic performance.
e. A student who transferred to another school for valid reason(s) and seeks re-admission may be re-admitted the following school year provided he/she;
Has no failing grade in any subject
Has not been subjected to any disciplinary sanction(s)
Retakes an entrance test and passes the interview by the Screening Committee
A student who was dismissed and seeks re-admission after a year or two maybe re-admitted upon deliberation.
